What you will need

Today’s tutorial will focus on the drawing part. But if you want, you can also color it after you finished. So make sure to prepare:

  • Sketching supplies
  • Art markers
  • Colored pencils
  • Paper

How to draw a cute bunny face

Step 1: draw 2 eyes

Start by drawing 2 cute eyes.

Each eye is simply a big circle with two smaller circles inside that are the highlights.

Since I’m drawing a girl bunny, I also added eyelashes.

Step 2: draw the nose and mouth

A bunny nose looks pretty similar to a triangle.

However, since we are drawing a cute version, draw a heart instead.

I decided to make the heart pink, because I’m drawing a female bunny. You can make it blue if you are drawing a boy.

Then add a wide “w” underneath the nose, which will be the mouth.

Step 3: draw the whiskers

Draw a few whiskers on each side.

Keep in mind that some whiskers can be bigger than others. And some whiskers will be straight, while other are a little curly.

Also add a few dots to indicate where to whiskers come from.

Step 4: draw two big ears

What is a bunny without its big ears?

For the left ear I drew the ear straight. So simply draw a big oval, with a smaller oval within.

For the right ear, I did the same thing and then drew a third small oval at the end.

After you erase everything underneath this third oval, you will have a nice folded ear.

Step 5: give you bunny some accessories!

To finish your cute bunny you can give it a few accessories as well.

First I drew one bunny with a few flowers around one of her ears. For the second try I decided to give her a little bow.

Be creative and come up with something unique yourself!

How to draw an easy cartoon bunny

Step 1: draw the outline of the face

Start by drawing a circle with thin lines. This will roughly indicate where the face should go.

Then draw a triangle around it with soft edges.

You can then erase the circle.

Step 2: draw the ears

Similar to before, the bunny ears are made by drawing a small oval inside a bigger oval.

If you want you can draw one or both of the ears folded again.

Step 3: draw the eyes

Draw the eyes in the center of your triangle.

You can draw them as ovals or circles.

Don’t forget to indicate the highlights as well.

Step 4: draw the nose and mouth

This time we’ll draw the nose as a small triangle with smooth edges.

This triangle is of course in the opposite direction compared to the triangle you used for the face.

You can add a highlight on the nose as well if you want.

For the mouth we’ll draw a rounded “W”.

Step 5: add the whiskers

You can add as many whiskers as you want.

These whiskers don’t need to be connected to the nose directly.

You are now done drawing the face, so let’s continue with the rest of the body.

Step 6: draw a small oval

For the body we’ll start with a small oval underneath the head again.

Make sure this oval isn’t too far away from the face.

Since this is a cartoon bunny, you don’t need to make the body too big.

Step 7: draw the body

If you drew a nice oval, then you are almost done with the body.

Simply connect it to the back and front of the head.

If you want you can draw some of the hairs sticking out like I did here on the chest.

When you are happy with your bunny’s body, you can erase the oval again.

Step 8: draw the paws

For the front paws you can simply draw small cylinders.

Make sure the draw the paw at the back a little smaller and behind the paw in front.

For the paw at the back, we are going to draw the leg as well.

This leg is simply half a circle attached to the paw.

Don’t forget to erase the part of the body where the paw is.

Step 9: draw a fluffy tail

Finish your bunny by giving it a fluffy tail.

And that’s all!

You have drawn your first cartoon bunny.

Are you happy with the results?

How to draw a bunny that looks real

Drawing a bunny that looks real is quite a bit more difficult than drawing a cartoon version and it requires way more step.

However, if you want to learn how to draw a realistic bunny I recommend you try out the excellent tutorial tutsplus that can find by clicking here.

I gave it a try myself and here are my results. I’m not showing all the steps though, so make sure to check out tutsplus’ tutorial for that.

Step 1: make a rough sketch of a bunny

Like any complicated drawing, you want to start out by sketching.

I started with the face and then moved to the body.

To be honest, at this point I wasn’t sure if my bunny was going to turn out very well.

Step 2: go over your sketch and add details

I then drew on top of my sketch again and filled in all the details.

This is easy if you have a lightbox or draw digitally.

If not, you might want to use ink for this step.

The most difficult part is to make the fur look realistic.

I found that it really help to hold your pen loosely and use swift lines.

Step 3: cleaning up your drawing

After you erased the sketch completely you should be left with a pretty realistic bunny.

Don’t forget to add some whiskers!

Although I have drawn many cartoon bunnies, this was my first time drawing a bunny that looks real.

And I’m pretty happy with the results!

So if I could do it, I’m sure you could do it too.

It looks intimidating at first, but just give it a try.
