Verdigogh Zentangle | How To Draw Zentangles
Many of the floral tangles are inspired by real plants, flowers, and trees. And that’s also the case for Verdigogh!
In case you didn’t notice yet, Verdigogh is inspired by a pine branch.
This tangle might look complicated at first, but if you know the right steps it’s actually surprisingly easy to draw.
So let’s take a look at how to draw Verdigogh!
Step 1
Start by drawing a long and thing stem.
Ideally you start drawing it (close) to one corner and towards the opposite corner.
Step 2
Draw new needles pointing upwards on both sides of the stem.
Roughly a 45-degree angle works great!
Step 3
Now add the same number of needles that are close to horizontal.
Draw the new horizontal needles underneath the needles your drew in the previous step.
Step 4
Now repeat step 2 by drawing new needles at roughly a 45-degree angle to the stem.
This time it’s a little trickier than before, because you’ll come across a lot of other needles you already drew.
Step 5
Repeat step 3 a second time by drawing new horizontal needles.
Try to fill any gaps on the stem that are still left without any needles.
If you can’t find a good place to start drawing the new needles, it fine to draw them behind other needles you already drew.
Step 6
And you finished drawing the Verdigogh tangle!
Of course, you could keep repeating step 2 and 3 to make a more complicated pattern.
Alternatively, you could also start with a double stem or add an aura to your zentangle.
Although Verdigogh looks good on its own, I think it’s even better when you combine it with other zentangle patterns.

What do you need for drawing zentangles?
The best thing about zentangle art is that you don’t need much to get started.
The only supplies you need to start drawing your first zentangle are:
- A pen with black ink: a pen with a fine-tip will make it easier to draw more complicated and detailed patterns. The Sakura Pigma Micron fineliner works great for this.
- Paper: any paper will do when starting out. But if you want to store your zentangles or put them on display, you might want to invest in better quality paper such as these bristol artist tiles.
- Pencil: pencils are often used to sketch complicated patterns before inking them. Make sure to use a sharp pencil or a mechanical pencil.
How to draw zentangles
Drawing a zentangle is super easy and only requires three simple steps.
Step 1: Draw a square
Start by drawing the outer edges of your zentangle.
This can really be any shape you want.
But if this is your first zentangle, I recommend you stick to a simple square or rectangle.
Step 2: Divide the square in 4
Draw two lines to divide your square in 4 sections.
You can draw the two diagonals or draw two curved lines like I did below.
As you become more experienced, you might want to divide your zentangle in more sections.
Step 3: Fill each section with a pattern
Fill in each of the sections with a different pattern.
You can come up with your own patterns, or try one of the patterns from the list below.
