Ynix Zentangle | How To Draw Zentangles

Most floral zentangle pattern are quite complicated.

Fortunately, the Ynix tangle isn’t like that at all!

Ynix is simple enough for any beginner to draw.

So let’s take a look at how to draw this easy flower Zentangle!

Step 1

Start by drawing a seed shape close to one of the corners of your tile or paper.

Step 2

Draw a second seed right next to the first, with both ends touching each other.

Step 3

Keep drawing seed shapes on top of each other.

Each new layer should be a bit smaller than the previous, such that it tapers off towards the end.

Once you reach the top, you can finish by drawing just a single seed pointing upwards or two seeds pointing outwards.

Step 4

Draw a thin outline around your seeds.

This is also referred to as an “aura” and is used in many zentangle patterns.

Step 5

Repeat the first four steps as many times as you want to make a larger zentangle.

You can fill up the entire square with Ynix or combine it with other zentangles.

Step 6

Congratulations! You just finished drawing your first Ynix pattern.

If you want, you can even decorate each seed that makes up Ynix with another pattern if you want an even cooler effect.

What do you need for drawing zentangles?

The best thing about zentangle art is that you don’t need much to get started.

The only supplies you need to start drawing your first zentangle are:

• A pen with black ink: a pen with a fine-tip will make it easier to draw more complicated and detailed patterns. The Sakura Pigma Micron fineliner works great for this.
• Paper: any paper will do when starting out. But if you want to store your zentangles or put them on display, you might want to invest in better quality paper such as these bristol artist tiles.
• Pencil: pencils are often used to sketch complicated patterns before inking them. Make sure to use a sharp pencil or a mechanical pencil.

How to draw zentangles

Drawing a zentangle is super easy and only requires three simple steps.

Step 1: Draw a square

Start by drawing the outer edges of your zentangle.

This can really be any shape you want.

But if this is your first zentangle, I recommend you stick to a simple square or rectangle.

Step 2: Divide the square in 4

Draw two lines to divide your square in 4 sections.

You can draw the two diagonals or draw two curved lines like I did below.

As you become more experienced, you might want to divide your zentangle in more sections.

Step 3: Fill each section with a pattern

Fill in each of the sections with a different pattern.

You can come up with your own patterns, or try one of the patterns from the list below.
